Brew Day Numbers Review - Tutorial
Planning in homebrewing is just as important as being able to think on your feet. In this video we go through a few of the steps we do before we start our brewday. Brew day numbers is simply creating your recipe/or reviewing it if its part of a kit, figuring out our sparge and mash volumes/temperatures, and now also working in some water chemistry.
We don't suggest everyone use this method, in fact this is just the method we have used for years. There are may other options when it comes to brew day numbers. This is purely a review of the steps we take prior to brew day. Maybe you can spot something you can improve on in your next brew day!

A neighbor set one of these out by the curb. I asked them about it, they said it was because one of the flaps on the lid was broken- no infections or cracks. Rather than send them a lid, the company sent them a replacement for the entire thing. Even with the bad flap, I can still feel the lid snap firmly into place so it still holds air. Worst case I'll add a bungee cord. I got myself one of these for the cost of a stopper and a mason jar. Not a bad deal. I don't have the bottling funnel-their site is sold out, but I have a racking cane. I can use that until the 5-dollar part is back in stock. The stand is also taped together in one place, but for free, I'm not complaining.

I actually have two of these systems. I like them very much. had the first one a year before getting the 2nd. You are correct about the flaps on the lid. I recently had one of the latches crack at the plastic "hinge". They sell replacements for about $20. I have a buddy of mine that does metalwork looking into making me a stand out of aircraft aluminum.

You can use that same process to make wine. Just buy 100% grape juice, get a highly resistant wine yeast and you can get in the upper teens for ABV. It just takes more racking to get the sediment out. I got about 20 bottles of red wine for around 30 bucks in supplies and it did the job. Didn't taste like rot gut either.

Nicely done. If you want a stronger boil, try putting a steel bowl floating on top of the boil. Works a treat, you'll probably need to dial-down the dial on the cook top. Makes it even more efficient ;)
